A message from the CEO; The Canberra Wine House is now closed

Last night, following a meeting between the Prime Minister and National Cabinet, it was announced that further measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 would be introduced that will require the temporary closure of all licensed venues.

As a result, I wish to inform you that with much regret, The Canberra Wine House is now closed effective immediately.

At this time it is unclear how long we will need to remain closed. However, we will do our utmost to keep you informed of any relevant updates.

In the meantime, I would like to reassure all members that when we do reopen, all accrued member benefits will be maintained.

This is a devastating outcome that is going to impact heavily on a lot of people.

It is critical that we all follow the official advice and do everything in our power to get through this as quickly as we can with compassion and support for others. Thank you for your understanding.

Stay safe and I look forward to seeing you again soon at The Canberra Wine House.

With heavy heart,
Rob Docker

A message from the CEO regarding indoor gatherings

I wrote about the evolving COVID-19 (Coronavirus) situation just two days ago. In case you missed it, you can access my original letter below.

Since that time there have been further developments with the Prime Minister yesterday announcing even tighter restrictions on social gathering.

You might have heard him mention a limit of 100 people and I wish to clarify what this means. The advice available from the Department of Health clearly states that these limits apply to separate rooms or areas within a venue.

In our case, being a venue with plenty of space to maintain social distancing, we can divide the club into multiple areas that will each have a maximum capacity of 100 people under these new rules.

Despite observing a few additional restrictions, the club and The Canberra Wine House remains open as normal.

This is an ongoing situation and I will continue to keep you updated with any developments that are relevant to us.

As I said in my previous letter, we take health and safety extremely seriously at The Tradies Group. At the same time, we will continue to do whatever we can to operate as normally as the circumstances permit for the benefit of our members and staff.

I look forward to seeing you again soon at The Tradies and The Canberra Wine House.

A message from the CEO regarding the Coronavirus #1

I understand the deep level of concern and anxiety the Coronavirus pandemic is causing to all of us and I want to provide you with an overview of how The Tradies Group is approaching and ensuring the highest level of hygiene standards across our business.

The Tradies Group has a long record of maintaining excellent health and safety standards for its staff and members. We are one of the few entertainment venues in Canberra with a dedicated full time Health and Safety Officer. Our health and safety systems and standards have stood the test of time and been recognised as the best in the industry.

No one can be assured that as good as our approach to health and safety might be that The Tradies Group won’t be impacted by the Coronavirus. In recent weeks and prior to any reported Coronavirus cases in Canberra The Tradies Group stepped up its hygiene and work practice standards to a level not seen previously in the club industry.

At The Tradies we are fortunate that our large floor space makes it far easier for our members to limit contact with other people in these circumstances.

In early March over 50 hand sanitizers were placed across our business along with other hygiene products such as hand wipes. We have reviewed all hygiene, cleaning and staff work practices. Without being too draconian we have provided clear direction and guidance to our staff about the hygiene standards which must be followed at all times. These include but not limited to the following:

  • Stay home when you are sick.

  • Wash your hands frequently with warm, soapy water before and after eating, and after going to the toilet.

  • Regularly use hand sanitizers placed around the club.

  • Cover your mouth with tissues whenever you sneeze, and discard used tissues in the trash.

  • Avoid people who are sick with respiratory symptoms.

  • Clean frequently touched surfaces.

  • Maintain a social distance of 1.5m as much as possible.

If you believe you have come in contact with the virus or are generally feeling unwell, I urge you to stay at home until such time as you can be certain you are in the clear. Otherwise, please continue to enjoy the club facilities.

I look forward to seeing you again soon at The Tradies and The Canberra Wine House.
